📍 Zvartnots International Airport (EVN): about 10–12 km west of central Yerevan, the main gateway to Armenia.
Why Rent a Car at Yerevan Airport
Armenia is small, but its best sights are scattered in the mountains: monasteries in gorges, a high lake, ski resorts and vineyards. Minibuses (marshrutkas) reach many towns, but timetables are loose and they do not go to the remote monasteries. A rental car turns a two-day taxi bill into a flexible road trip.
Our advice: the city centre is close and taxis are easy, so you can collect the car on the day you leave Yerevan, or ask the provider to deliver it to the airport or your hotel after a late flight.

Picking Up at EVN: Meeting Points and Late Arrivals
How the car is handed over depends on the agency: some meet you in the arrivals area, some in the car park, some at a nearby yard with a shuttle, and many deliver to a hotel in Yerevan. Use the "Specify location" option in the search to choose, and do not rely on a named counter unless it is written on the car card. Zvartnots is small, so the meeting point is usually easy to find, but confirm the exact spot with the manager by phone or message.
Late arrival? Many international flights land late at night. Give the provider your flight number, confirm the meeting point and any out-of-hours fee, and check that the phone number on your voucher answers messages.
Documents and Age
- Valid driving licence, usually held for at least a year; minimum age is typically 21 (23 or 25 for larger or premium cars)
- International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your national licence — requirements depend on the country that issued your licence and on the agency, so check with the agency which documents it accepts before you travel
- Passport and the booking voucher
- A payment method that matches the offer: many agencies block the deposit on a credit card; use the No deposit or No credit card filter if you need an alternative
What Affects the Price of a Rental at EVN
We do not quote a fixed price here, because rates for the same car change with dates and availability. Look at the live search for your exact days. The main factors:
- Season: summer and early autumn are the busiest and dearest, and the ski season around Tsaghkadzor lifts prices in winter; spring and late autumn are usually quieter
- Car class: an automatic SUV or pick-up costs clearly more than a compact car
- Rental length: weekly and longer rentals usually lower the daily rate
- Insurance level: full coverage adds a daily amount but often removes the deposit
- Pick-up and return place: airport and out-of-hours pick-up, delivery and one-way returns can carry fees
When you compare, look at the total with full coverage, not the base rate alone.
Armenia Insurance and Deposit Explained
With basic insurance the excess — your share of any damage — can be large and the agency blocks a deposit. Full coverage brings the excess close to zero and, with many local agencies, means no deposit. Typical exclusions are tyres, glass, the underbody, interior damage and lost keys, and the cover is not valid off-road. Fines and parking are billed separately. Photograph the car with the agent at pick-up and return and make sure all damage is in the acceptance document.
The Airport Road, Parking and Yerevan Traffic
The airport lies west of the city and connects to Yerevan by a main road that can slow down at rush hours. In the centre, one-way streets, tight kerbside parking and fast lane changes are the norm; paid street parking and private lots exist, and signs and apps vary by district. If your first night is in the centre, ask the hotel about parking before you collect the car. Fines from police and cameras are sent to the agency, which charges you after the rental.
Driving Near EVN: Roads and Habits
Armenian driving can feel assertive: drivers cut in, stop suddenly for passengers and use the horn. Outside Yerevan, roads climb quickly into the mountains, with trucks on the main highways and animals and farm vehicles in villages. Night driving is harder because lighting is patchy outside towns and some surfaces are rough.
- Traffic drives on the right; overtake on the left
- Speed limits are signed (typically 60 km/h in towns and higher on open roads); police and speed cameras operate, so check the signs
- Strict drink-driving rules — the safest approach is zero alcohol before driving
- No handheld phone; seatbelts are compulsory and children need a suitable seat
- Mountain roads climb through passes with bends, fog and rockfall; in winter expect snow and ice, and carry what the agency recommends
- Yerevan traffic can be aggressive, with sudden lane changes and tight parking; keep a larger gap than at home
- Do not take the car off the paved road onto mountain tracks: insurance is not valid off-road
- Crossing a border with a rental car needs the agency's written permission; check before you travel
- Check the weather before a mountain drive; fog and snow can close high roads quickly
