VRENTY CAR is an independent comparison service. The search above is provided by our partner Localrent and lists local agencies side by side; you book directly with the provider. Always confirm the price, insurance and deposit before you pay.
📍 Sunny Beach: Bulgaria's largest Black Sea resort, about 35 km from Burgas Airport (BOJ) and a few kilometres from Nesebar.
Is a Car Worth It in Sunny Beach?
The resort is a long strip of hotels, bars and beach, and most things are on foot. Tourist trains, buses and taxis link it to Nesebar. A car pays off only if you want to leave: Sozopol, the southern beaches, wineries or the road north to Varna.
Our advice: rent for the days you travel and ask the agency to deliver the car to your hotel. If your hotel has no car park, avoid keeping the car on the street overnight.

| Sveti Vlas | ~5 km | 10–20 min |
| Pomorie | ~25 km | about 25–40 min |
| Burgas Airport (BOJ) | ~35 km | 35–55 min |

| Varna | ~95–100 km | about 1.5–2 hours |
Resort Traffic, Changeover Days and Parking
The main road behind the strip is slow in the evening, when pedestrians cross and taxis stop without warning. Saturday is changeover day for many hotels, so the road to Burgas Airport is busier. Car parks near the beach are paid and fill by midday; some hotels have their own lots.
- Check your hotel's parking before you book the car
- Avoid the strip road in the late evening
- Do not park on pavements or in marked pedestrian areas
- Fines from police and cameras are sent to the agency, which charges you after the rental
Pick-Up and Delivery
Pick-up is usually delivered to your hotel in Sunny Beach, or collected at Burgas Airport (BOJ). Use the "Specify location" option in the search to choose, and check the car card for any fee. Do not rely on a named office unless it is written on the car card. If you arrive late, give the provider your flight number.
Documents and Age
- Valid driving licence, usually held for at least a year; minimum age is typically 21 (23 or 25 for larger or premium cars)
- Valid driving licence: licences issued in EU/EEA countries are generally accepted, while for other licences the agency may ask for an International Driving Permit (IDP) with a translation or Latin-script licence — rules differ by country of issue and can change, so confirm exactly what you need with the agency before you travel
- Passport and the booking voucher
- A payment method that matches the offer: many agencies block the deposit on a credit card; use the No deposit or No credit card filter if you need an alternative
Insurance and Deposit Explained
With basic insurance the excess — your share of any damage — can be large and the agency blocks a deposit. Full coverage brings the excess close to zero and, with many local agencies, means no deposit. Typical exclusions are tyres, glass, the underbody, interior damage and lost keys, and the cover is not valid off-road. Tolls, fines and parking are billed separately; ask the agency whether the e-vignette for national roads is included. Photograph the car with the agent at pick-up and return and make sure all damage is in the acceptance document.
Driving in Sunny Beach: Roads and Habits
Expect pedestrians, mopeds and quad bikes on or near the road, and watch for drivers who have been drinking in the evening. Keep your speed low in the resort.
- Traffic drives on the right; follow priority signs carefully, because local drivers often pull out or change lanes late
- Typical limits are 50 km/h in towns, 90 km/h outside built-up areas and up to 140 km/h on motorways, but always follow the signs; speed cameras and police radar are common
- Most national roads outside towns require an e-vignette; rental cars are usually supplied with one, but confirm with the agency, because cameras check it and the fine goes to the renter
- Strict drink-driving limit (low blood-alcohol level) with heavy penalties — the safest rule is zero alcohol before driving
- Seatbelts are compulsory, no handheld phone, and children need a suitable seat; keep dipped headlights on as local rules require and check the current rule with the agency
- Watch for potholes, horse carts, tractors, stray dogs and slow lorries on single-carriageway roads; overtaking on bends is a common cause of crashes
- Winter driving in the mountains may require winter tyres or chains; check with the agency, and expect snow on passes from late autumn to spring
- Do not take the car off the paved road: insurance is not valid off-road or on beaches and forest tracks
- Crossing a border (Greece, Romania, Turkey, Serbia and others) needs the agency's written permission and a green card; some agencies forbid it or charge a fee
