📍 Larnaca International Airport (LCA): on the south-east coast of Cyprus, a few kilometres from Larnaca, with motorway links to Nicosia, Limassol and Paphos and to the Ayia Napa and Protaras resorts.
Why Rent a Car at Larnaca Airport
Cyprus is small, but its sights are spread out: beaches in the south-east, wine villages and mountains in the centre, old harbours and ancient ruins on the west coast. Buses between the towns are limited, taxis are costly for long runs, and a rental car is the most practical way to see more than one resort. From Larnaca the motorway runs west towards Limassol and Paphos and north to Nicosia.
Our advice: if you land late or tired, pick up the car at the airport only if you are comfortable with left-hand driving after a flight; otherwise ask the provider to deliver it to your hotel the next morning. Resorts such as Ayia Napa and Protaras are close enough that a car is optional, but it pays off for day trips.

| Troodos (Platres) | ~110 km | about 1.5–2 hours |
| Paphos | ~140–150 km | about 1.5–2 hours |
Picking Up at LCA: Meeting Points and Late Arrivals
How the car is handed over depends on the agency: some meet you in the arrivals area, some in the car park, some at a nearby yard with a shuttle, and many deliver to a hotel in Larnaca, Ayia Napa or Protaras. Use the "Specify location" option in the search to choose, and do not rely on a named counter unless it is written on the car card. Many flights arrive late at night in summer, so give the provider your flight number.
Late arrival? Many international flights land late at night. Give the provider your flight number, confirm the meeting point and any out-of-hours fee, and check that the phone number on your voucher answers messages.
Documents and Age
- Valid driving licence, usually held for at least a year; minimum age is typically 21 (23 or 25 for larger or premium cars)
- Your national driving licence and, depending on where it was issued, an International Driving Permit (IDP) — licences from the EU and the UK are generally accepted for visitors, while other licences may need an IDP, so ask the agency what it requires before you travel
- Passport and the booking voucher
- A payment method that matches the offer: many agencies block the deposit on a credit card; use the No deposit or No credit card filter if you need an alternative
What Affects the Price of a Rental at LCA
We do not quote a fixed price here, because rates for the same car change with dates and availability. Look at the live search for your exact days. The main factors:
- Season: July and August are the hottest and busiest months, and Easter and the school holidays also push prices up; spring and autumn are milder and usually cheaper, and winter is quiet on the coast
- Car class: an automatic SUV or pick-up costs clearly more than a compact car
- Rental length: weekly and longer rentals usually lower the daily rate
- Insurance level: full coverage adds a daily amount but often removes the deposit
- Pick-up and return place: airport and out-of-hours pick-up, delivery and one-way returns can carry fees
When you compare, look at the total with full coverage, not the base rate alone.
Cyprus Insurance and Deposit Explained
With basic insurance the excess — your share of any damage — can be large and the agency blocks a deposit. Full coverage brings the excess close to zero and, with many local agencies, means no deposit. Typical exclusions are tyres, glass, the underbody, interior damage and lost keys, and the cover is not valid off-road. Fines and parking are billed separately, and cover usually does not extend to the northern part of the island. Photograph the car with the agent at pick-up and return and make sure all damage is in the acceptance document.
Motorways, Roundabouts and the Road Network
The main motorways link Larnaca with Nicosia, Limassol and Paphos, and they are generally in good condition; check the agency about any charges before you drive. Junctions out of the airport and around Larnaca have several roundabouts, and on the left-hand system you enter them clockwise and give way to traffic already on the circle. Satellite navigation helps, but follow the signs for the motorway number as well. Fines from speed cameras and police are sent to the agency, which charges you after the rental.
Driving Near LCA: Roads and Habits
Drivers on the motorway can be fast, and tailgating and late lane changes are not unusual, so keep to the left lane unless overtaking and leave a large gap. In town centres streets are narrow, and parking in summer is hard near beaches and harbours. Night driving outside towns is easy on main roads but lighting on village roads is limited.
- Traffic drives on the left, as in the UK; look right when pulling out and take roundabouts clockwise
- Speed limits are signed (typically 50 km/h in towns, around 80 km/h on main roads and up to 100 km/h on motorways); speed cameras and police checks are used, so follow the signs
- Strict drink-driving limit with heavy penalties — the safest rule is zero alcohol before driving
- No handheld phone; seatbelts are compulsory and children need a suitable seat
- Mountain roads in the Troodos can be icy or snowy in winter, and heat and fatigue are a risk on summer drives
- Do not take the car off the paved road, onto beaches or onto rough forest tracks: insurance is not valid there
- Crossing to the northern part of the island is allowed only with the agency's permission and extra insurance, which is often not covered — ask first
- A rental car stays on the island; it cannot be taken abroad or on a ferry
- Yellow lines at the kerb mean no parking; use paid or signed car parks
