VRENTY CAR is an independent comparison service. The search above is provided by our partner Localrent and lists local agencies side by side; you book directly with the provider. Always confirm the price, insurance and deposit before you pay.
📍 Larnaca: a seaside town on the south-east coast of Cyprus, a few kilometres from Larnaca Airport (LCA).
Is a Car Worth It in Larnaca?
The seafront, the church of Saint Lazarus and the old market are close together and easy on foot. Outside the centre, though, buses are slow and few, and the beaches and villages are far apart. A car lets you visit the salt lake, the villages in the hills and the capital in your own time.
Our advice: stay in Larnaca without a car for a day or two, then book from the day you start exploring and ask the agency to deliver it to your hotel. For one-way trips to Paphos or Ayia Napa, ask about the return place.

Seafront Parking and the Old Town
The seafront road is busy on summer evenings, and spaces near Finikoudes fill up early. Streets in the old centre are narrow and some are one-way; use signed car parks and read the signs for time limits. The road to the airport passes the salt lake, which is flat and fast; keep an eye on the speed signs.
- Use paid car parks near the seafront in summer
- Do not park on yellow lines
- Fines from police and cameras are sent to the agency, which charges you after the rental
Pick-Up and Delivery
Pick-up is usually delivered to your hotel in Larnaca, or collected at Larnaca Airport (LCA). Use the "Specify location" option in the search to choose, and check the car card for any fee. Do not rely on a named office unless it is written on the car card. If you arrive late, give the provider your flight number.
Documents and Age
- Valid driving licence, usually held for at least a year; minimum age is typically 21 (23 or 25 for larger or premium cars)
- Your national driving licence and, depending on where it was issued, an International Driving Permit (IDP) — licences from the EU and the UK are generally accepted for visitors, while other licences may need an IDP, so ask the agency what it requires before you travel
- Passport and the booking voucher
- A payment method that matches the offer: many agencies block the deposit on a credit card; use the No deposit or No credit card filter if you need an alternative
Insurance and Deposit Explained
With basic insurance the excess — your share of any damage — can be large and the agency blocks a deposit. Full coverage brings the excess close to zero and, with many local agencies, means no deposit. Typical exclusions are tyres, glass, the underbody, interior damage and lost keys, and the cover is not valid off-road. Fines and parking are billed separately, and cover usually does not extend to the northern part of the island. Photograph the car with the agent at pick-up and return and make sure all damage is in the acceptance document.
Driving in Larnaca: Roads and Habits
The seafront and the roads around the marina are busy in the evening. Left-hand driving takes practice at the many clockwise roundabouts, so take your time and keep to the lane signs.
- Traffic drives on the left, as in the UK; look right when pulling out and take roundabouts clockwise
- Speed limits are signed (typically 50 km/h in towns, around 80 km/h on main roads and up to 100 km/h on motorways); speed cameras and police checks are used, so follow the signs
- Strict drink-driving limit with heavy penalties — the safest rule is zero alcohol before driving
- No handheld phone; seatbelts are compulsory and children need a suitable seat
- Mountain roads in the Troodos can be icy or snowy in winter, and heat and fatigue are a risk on summer drives
- Do not take the car off the paved road, onto beaches or onto rough forest tracks: insurance is not valid there
- Crossing to the northern part of the island is allowed only with the agency's permission and extra insurance, which is often not covered — ask first
- A rental car stays on the island; it cannot be taken abroad or on a ferry
