📍 Antalya Airport (AYT): about 10–12 km east of central Antalya on the Mediterranean coast, with the D400 coast road and the ring road close by.
Why Rent a Car at Antalya Airport
Resorts along this coast are strung out over 100 km or more, and a transfer to each one adds up. A car lets you stay in one place and still reach beaches, ancient cities and mountain villages. Public buses and dolmus minibuses work but follow set routes and slow down in summer traffic.
Our advice: if you are staying in a package resort for the first nights, collect the car on the day you start exploring, or ask the provider to deliver it to the hotel. If you are driving on straight after landing, remember that night arrivals and unfamiliar roads are a poor mix.
Drive Times from AYT
Times are approximate and change a lot with the hour and the season; use a live navigation app for the real figure.
| Destination | Approx. distance | Typical drive |
|---|---|---|
| Antalya old town (Kaleici) | ~12 km | 20–35 min |
| Belek | ~35 km | 35–50 min |
| Side | ~65 km | about 1–1.25 hours |
| Kemer | ~55 km | about 1 hour |
| Alanya | ~125–130 km | about 1.75–2.25 hours |
| Kas | ~190 km | about 3–3.5 hours |
Picking Up at AYT: Meeting Points and Late Arrivals
How the car is handed over depends on the agency: some meet you in the arrivals area, some in the car park, some at a nearby yard with a shuttle, and many deliver to a hotel in Antalya, Belek or Kemer. Use the "Specify location" option in the search to choose, and do not rely on a named counter unless it is written on the car card.
Late arrival? Antalya has many late and early flights in summer. Give the provider your flight number, confirm any out-of-hours fee and check that the phone number on your voucher answers messages.
Documents and Age
- Valid driving licence, usually held for at least a year; minimum age is typically 21 (23 or 25 for larger or premium cars)
- a valid national driving licence and, depending on the agency and your home country, an International Driving Permit (IDP) — rules differ by licence type, so ask the agency what it accepts before you travel
- Passport and the booking voucher
- A payment method that matches the offer: many agencies block the deposit on a credit card; use the No deposit or No credit card filter if you need an alternative
What Affects the Price of a Rental at AYT
We do not quote a fixed price here, because rates for the same car change with dates and availability. Look at the live search for your exact days. The main factors:
- Season: July and August on the Mediterranean and Aegean coasts, plus Easter and Turkish holiday periods, are the busiest and dearest; spring and autumn are calmer, and winter is cheapest on the coast
- Car class: an automatic SUV or pick-up costs clearly more than a compact car
- Rental length: weekly and longer rentals usually lower the daily rate
- Insurance level: full coverage adds a daily amount but often removes the deposit
- Pick-up and return place: airport and out-of-hours pick-up, delivery and one-way returns can carry fees
When you compare, look at the total with full coverage, not the base rate alone.
Turkey Insurance and Deposit Explained
With basic insurance the excess — your share of any damage — can be large and the agency blocks a deposit. Full coverage brings the excess close to zero and, with many local agencies, means no deposit. Typical exclusions are tyres, glass, the underbody, interior damage and lost keys, and the cover is not valid off-road. Motorway and bridge tolls (HGS/OGS), fines and parking are billed separately. Photograph the car with the agent at pick-up and return and make sure all damage is in the acceptance document.
The D400, Tolls and Parking
The D400 is the main coast road east and west of Antalya; it is busy in summer, with traffic lights, roundabouts and minibuses stopping at the roadside. Motorway sections and some bridges use electronic tolls (HGS/OGS); the rental normally handles the tag and charges you later, so ask how it works. In Antalya's old town and Lara, parking is tight; use signed car parks. Fines from police and cameras are sent to the agency.
Driving Near AYT: Roads and Habits
Around the airport, the ring road and the D400 carry fast traffic mixed with tour buses and scooters. Watch for sudden lane changes at roundabouts. In July and August, afternoon traffic towards Lara and Kemer is slow; plan long drives for the morning.
- Traffic drives on the right; overtake on the left and give way as signed at roundabouts
- Speed limits are signed (typically 50 km/h in towns, about 90 km/h on main roads and up to 120 km/h on motorways); speed cameras and mobile radar are common, so keep to the signed limit
- Strict drink-driving rules with heavy penalties — the safest rule is zero alcohol before driving
- Seatbelts are compulsory and handheld phones are not allowed; children need a suitable seat
- Motorways and bridges use electronic tolls (HGS/OGS tags or similar); ask the agency how the car is equipped and how tolls are charged later
- Drivers can be aggressive: expect tailgating, late lane changes and minibuses (dolmus) stopping suddenly
- In mountain areas, winter driving rules and snow or ice can apply; ask the agency about tyres and chains
- Do not take the car off the paved road: insurance is not valid on unpaved tracks
